Its history is similar to that of Sant Carles, like many other towns on the island, all named after a saint because the church was the unifying social factor. It was completed in 1797 and has the largest belfry (1899) of all the churches on Ibiza. The current façade reveals additions much later than the original temple, and was probably made around 1890. The presbytery preserves the original wooden altarpiece with a modern image of Saint Gertrudis. A small urban centre was built around it that still retains its original structure. It is one of the inland towns, where you can spend a pleasant afternoon shopping. There are not many shops in the parish, but there you can find craft items, decoration, antiques and leather.
