Canine DNA

What is the dog census?

The City Council of Santa Eulària des Riu, in collaboration with ADN Canino, has created a municipal canine census registry to have every dog in town identified. The identification of the dogs must be carried out both by an approved microchip and by a DNA sample, which uniquely identifies each animal and is obtained through a completely painless saliva sample.

Why a genetic census?

It is a reliable tool to protect animals, since the census will allow them to be located if they get lost, mistreated or abandoned. In addition, it allows you to keep your municipality clean and hygienic, since with this method it is possible to identify any pet owner who may have failed to comply with his or her obligation to collect the dog's excrement.

Which animals must be registered?

All dogs in the municipality must be registered in the municipal canine census register, as stipulated in the new ordinance on ownership, protection and animal welfare.

What is the cost of the DNA census?

The price is 37,50€.  During the initial period, the City Council will subsidize 50% of the DNA sample of the first dog and the total cost of the second one (if proof of ownership is provided).

How to carry out the census?

The census registration is carried out by a veterinarian who will extract a completely painless saliva sample from the dog. At that time, the owner will be given a badge with a QR code for the dog. This tag will contain basic information about the dog and must be worn on the collar.

When do I have to register my dog?

It is mandatory to register the dog. The Santa Eulària Town Hall will subsidize the registration until January 31, 2023.

How to register?

  1. Make an appointment and avoid queues.

  2. Receive the visit at your home.

  3. Once the sample is collected by the professional veterinarian, your dog will be registered and identified by DNA.
